This year, for the first time, we are presenting ‘Last Aid-Care for the Dying at home’ in Term 2 and Term 4, in response to a growing desire within the community to demystify death and dying, as well as training our volunteer carers.
The first Last Aid begins this Thursday 6th May, 2021 for 7 weeks at Byron Community College, Mullumbimby. This class is fully booked.
Our classes are limited to 16 participants – you can join the waiting list by calling the Byron College 02 66843374
Term 4 course begins in October. Dates tbc.

Last Aid – care for the dying at home
“Participants will learn how to be of genuine service to others, who may be family or friends, who are dying and who have chosen to die at home. Any person can attend this course and it can, if you wish, lead on to full training as a volunteer carer for Amitayus Home Hospice Service.”
Note, it is also the first stage of our Volunteer carer training.
There are 2 subsequent trainings for volunteer carers:
2. Manual Handling – a more hands-on half-day workshop learning how to move people in/out of bed, chairs etc
3. A non-residential weekend looking deeper at ones’s personal issues around death and dying, grief & loss.
